Speeeeelunking

For my Production Project (I will have pictures and posts of my Chasing & Repousse soon) I decided that I wanted to focus on Spelunking. Going into a deep, scary cave. Below is a picture of me going into one such cave at Nelson's Ledges over the summer. And let me tell you, there is nothing like being deep down in the earth with rock all around you, it's surreal.

That being said, I had an idea that i wanted to do some type of tubular shape to represent the caves but I wasn't sure if I wanted to do a pendant or maybe earrings. I settled on earrings and began to draw. I came up with a sort of "faux-plug" idea, I decided I would make a series of 5 sets. Through research and talking to people I was turned onto the artist Shana Kroiz. Her gallery includes earrings that are similar to the hidden-post or "faux-plug" effect I am trying to capture.

The World is Your Playground

Remember when you were a kid and it was rainy out and you had to stay indoors? You would plead "But Moooooom, I wanna play outsideeeee!" Why did you want to go out there so badly? I'll tell you why... because the wonders you could find in your own backyard far exceeded anything that a board game or cartoon could deliver. (I grew up in a time when 3-year-olds didn't have PS3s) And that feeling of wonder, right there, is why I landed on "The World is Your Playground" as my theme this semester. So, the only question is now, how do you draw pleasure from the world around you?
